Champion rank determines the level cap: four stars allows level 40, five stars level 50, and six stars level 60. Artifact rank works differently: upgrading gear raises its level, not its stars. Check which system you are upgrading before spending resources.
How do level and rank differ?
The official game overview describes leveling with experience sources such as XP Brews and increasing rank with eligible Champions or Chickens. Read the requirement on the current upgrade screen. Before using a Champion as material, check whether you still need it for a team or another collection objective.
What should equipment decisions solve?
Our recommendation is to begin with the job you want a Champion to do. A damage dealer, a support unit and a specialist for a particular encounter do not necessarily want the same equipment. Inspect skill descriptions before following a generic power score. An artifact choice should support a clear purpose that you can observe in battle.
How do you choose what to improve first?
Pick one activity that matters to your account, identify why a run fails and improve the relevant role. If survival is the problem, more damage elsewhere may not fix it. If a required effect is missing, a higher rarity alone is not the answer. This is a decision framework, not a patch-specific tier list or a tested dungeon team. Use the publisher’s system explanation as a starting point and check detailed Champion instructions against the current game.
Champion rank and maximum level
A Champion’s rank sets its level ceiling. Plarium’s Tavern guide lists these caps:

Why is my Champion stuck at level 40?
A four-star Champion is at its rank’s level cap at 40. You need a rank upgrade rather than more XP at that cap. Check the Tavern’s Upgrade Rank tab and review the materials before confirming. Lock Champions you want to keep; do not sacrifice a useful unit just because it appears eligible.
Can you increase an artifact’s stars?
No: upgrading an artifact increases its level, not its rank. Plarium states that artifact rank is fixed and the maximum artifact level is 16. Every four levels, a substat is unlocked or improved depending on rarity. See the official artifact FAQ.
Rank, rarity and level are not interchangeable
For gear, rank affects stat values; rarity determines the starting substats. A high-rarity item with an unsuitable primary stat is not automatically the best choice for your Champion. Plarium’s gear overview explains these separate properties.
A safer equipment decision
- Read the skill first. Identify what the Champion is supposed to accomplish, rather than choosing gear by its colour.
- Inspect the complete item. Look at the primary stat, existing substats and relevant set bonus together.
- Compare the result you need. If the problem is surviving an encounter, judge the change against survival—not only displayed power.
- Keep a baseline. Before changing several pieces, note the old setup. Otherwise you will not know which change helped.
This is a decision checklist, not a claim that Spixla has tested the best build for every Champion. Exact stat targets depend on the encounter and team; a universal number would be misleading.
