War Thunder is a free online military vehicle game built around aircraft, armoured vehicles and naval combat. Its appeal is learning how a machine fights: where it can move safely, what it can damage and which role helps the team. This hub covers the main PC and console game. Spixla’s current War Thunder offer is unavailable; check the game panel for any change before expecting an offer.

What you do in War Thunder
You choose vehicles, enter a battle, work toward its objectives and return to develop your options. Combined battles can pair tanks with aircraft or ships with aircraft; they do not put every vehicle type into every match. Gaijin also lists solo missions and other PvE content alongside competitive battles. The official overview explains this range.
Learning a vehicle is a useful goal in itself. A tank, bomber and patrol boat ask different questions about positioning and awareness. If you switch roles after every defeat, you may never discover whether the problem was your route, aim or unfamiliar controls. Give one role enough attention to understand a complete encounter, including the approach and the retreat.
Who will enjoy it?
War Thunder suits players who enjoy military machines, repeated matches and gradual improvement through observation. It is a less natural fit if you want an offline campaign or expect every unlock to make the next match easier. New equipment can also change the opponents you face. Treat researching a vehicle and being comfortable using it as separate milestones.
Platforms and pre-install checks
The publisher lists Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A Windows offer applies to that installation route, not the entire platform list. The official site lists War Thunder Mobile separately; check the exact title when choosing a client. A permanent internet connection is required, including for solo content. See the publisher FAQ.
Before installing, compare your operating system and graphics hardware with the current requirements. The publisher distinguishes minimal and full clients, so one quoted download size will not describe every installation. Allow room for the client you select and subsequent updates. If you already have an account on a console, read its specific account section before starting another account on PC.
A useful first session
- Complete the relevant official combat tutorials, then practise the controls you expect to use in one vehicle role.
- Choose the battle mode before reviewing your lineup. The official matchmaking article says Battle Rating can differ between modes.
- Check the rating displayed beneath the battle button. It is more relevant to matchmaking than your vehicle’s research rank.
- After a defeat, identify one decision to change. Try a different approach or engagement distance before replacing several vehicles at once.
Frequently asked questions
Is War Thunder free?
The base game is free to download and play without a subscription fee. That does not mean every optional item is free, or that Spixla currently has an available offer.
Is Battle Rating the same as Rank?
No. Battle Rating describes matchmaking performance and depends on the mode; research rank is a different classification. Read our Battle Rating versus Rank guide before changing a lineup.
Can I play without an internet connection?
No. Gaijin’s FAQ requires a permanent connection. Plan your first session for a stable connection even if you intend to begin with solo activities.
